Shyam Benegal will get V. Shantaram Lifetime Achievement Award
Veteran filmmaker Shyam Benegal has been selected for the prestigious V. Shantaram Lifetime Achievement Award
New Delhi: Veteran filmmaker Shyam Benegal has been selected for the prestigious V. Shantaram Lifetime Achievement Award at the Mumbai International Film Festival (MIFF-2012). This was announced on Friday. Maharashtra Governor C.V. Rao will give a trophy, a testimonial, shawl and a million cash as a reward to Benedel in the closing ceremony of MIFF 2018 on Saturday.
Benegal's name was unanimously elected by an independent committee. The committee included Kiran Shantaram, Rahul Rawail, Prasun Joshi, Bharti Pradhan and Vinod Anupam. The committee selected for this award keeping in mind the important contributions in the development of the documentary movement of India.
73-year-old Benagle is a respected and legendary filmmaker who is known as the lead-oriented film about the contemporary Indian experience and the leader of the new cinema of the country.
During his career, he produced 28 feature films, including classic films such as Ankur, Nishant, Mandi, Role, Churning and Passion. Apart from this, he created 41 documentaries, which include all topics including cultural, anthropology, sustainable development, lifestyle, art and culture.
He got the National Award for his documentary 'Satyajit Ray' (1982). He has got nine national awards for his films and documentaries. In 2005, he was awarded Dada Saheb Phalke Award. He has been honored with Padma Bhushan.
MIFF's V. Shantaram Lifetime Achievement Award is given to honor the legendary filmmaker, who has made outstanding contribution to the world of films. This award was established in memory of the great filmmaker Shantaram Rajaram Wankudare, who is known as V. Shantaram.
