Satyajit Ray was born on 2 May 1921 in the Bengali family of Kolkata. In his childhood, the father's body was raised from his head. He was only two years old when his father Sukumar Rai passed away in 1923. His mother, Suprabha Rai, raised them up alone. He studied economics from Kolkata's Presidency College, but his interest in childhood always remained in fine arts. After this Ray went to Santiniketan and stayed there for five years.

Career started as a designer

After returning to Kolkata in 1943, Satyajir Ray started his career as a Graphics Designer. He designed Jim Corbett's cover of several popular books like 'Man Eaters of Kumaon' and Jawaharlal Nehru's 'Discovery of India'. Here, there was a complete discount to show the creativity in designing them. Who knew at that time that this designer one day is going to be the world's flagrant filmmaker of India? During this time, he also worked on the child version of Bihitabhushan Bandopadhyay's novel 'Pather Panchali'. Its name was Common Aatir Bhanpu (mango ki kthi whistle). This made Satyajit Ray so impressed that he made his debut film on this.

Money has failed but did not change the story 


During the returning from London, Satyajir Ray planned on how to make the film on the way. He took almost all the new people in the film. They started working on the money they had with them. The situation was such that in the absence of money, the film stopped many times. It is said that he had sold his Life Insurance Policy to make this film. Not only this, by selling wife's jewelery, they also put money in this film. Nevertheless, the work was not completed. He had refused to accept money from people who wanted a change in his film. Work started on this film in 1952 and after the Bengal government gave him money in 1955, the work was completed.

The first hit 'Pather Panchali' hit 

In 1955, Pather Panchali was released and people liked it very much. The film also received much praise from critics. 'Pather Panchali' won many international awards. These awards were given to him at the 1956 Cannes Film Festival.

When the film was screening in Cannes, the French filmmaker Francois Truffaut got up and left. He said that "I do not see the film showing the bastards eating hand-eaters ..." After this, when he came to Mumbai in 1970, he cleared it. He said, "Against these reports, as soon as the film ended, I wanted to see Pather Panchali again."


After this he made the film Aparajito (1956) and Apur Sansar (1959). These films also receive many awards.
